Hi Everyone,
This month marks the THIRD ANNIVERSARY of Las Dos Brujas Newsletter!
It seems astonishing to me that so much time has passed. Not to mention 118 writing prompts, 33 thinking prompts, our ‘Celebrating Poets’ series, a variety of online workshops, author visits, book recommendations, information on readings, residencies, literary contests, and more—over 400 posts in all!
But dearest to my heart is having created, together, a supportive community for writers. We may do our work in solitude but our celebrations—and solidarity—are definitely done communally. Thank you so much for being a part of this online experiment!
I am stepping away from the newsletter because I’ve decided to retire and take time—while I still can—for more traveling, dancing, reading, birdwatching, theater, visual arts, hiking, yoga, mentoring, fostering chihuahuas, and more. I still plan to teach occasional summer workshops, shepherd the paperback of my latest novel,Vanishing Maps, into the world, and possibly do more theater.
Most importantly, I’ll keep the newsletter online for at least a year as an archive of writing prompts and ideas for you to revisit and seek inspiration whenever you need it.
For those of you who are paid subscribers, I’ve especially appreciated your support of Las Dos Brujas these past few years. Please go ahead and cancel your subscriptions but be sure to stay on as unpaid subscribers to have full access to the archive. Do email me directly if you’ve paid annually and still have time left on your subscription. And if you’re among our founding members, kindly contact me to arrange a last consultation, if you haven’t done so already.
Finally, if you have any announcements regarding upcoming book publications in 2024—or beyond—I encourage you to post them in the comments section below. Please include links to your website and pre-order/purchase information. Congratulations in advance!
Please stay in touch. Wishing each and every one of you many more years of HAPPY WRITING …
Abrazos,
Cristina

I will truly miss your newsletter. It was one of my favorite emails to open. But I'm sure we will be in touch. And I wish you all the best in whatever activities you have planned. The travel sounds marvelous.
I have a little news as well. The Brazilian edition of A Woman of Endurance, called, “Memórias de água e sal” in Portuguese (trans. Memories of Water and Salt) by Primavera Editorial is now available. https://www.instagram.com/p/C1sSTAWsdsk/ I can't read a word of Portuguese but it's so gratifying knowing my narrative world will be open to a whole new group of readers.
My best to all my fellow writers who have connected through this newsletter. Hope to stay in touch as well.
Cristina, I will miss your newsletter SO MUCH! Every single one had your personality. I felt like we were having coffee on a bitterly cold day, talking books and bochinchando PR/Cuban political bullshit. I'm going on the record here: I am the writer that I am today because you inspired me twenty-five years ago. (All the bad stuff is me, not you!) When I read Dreaming in Cuban, I thought, Maybe I can be a novelist, too. I'm going to try. And then I took your workshop in 2019 in San Francisco. You made us all go out and buy a book of poetry. (I bought Ariel by Sylvia Plath.) From that class on, I would read poetry before I would write. It helped my writing immensely. I could go on with this testimonial of what you mean to me as an artist. I could write another of you as a person. But so that this doesn't end up being a novel, I want to toss my name in the hat for any upcoming event honoring you. Much love, Cristina, siempre.
