Hi Everyone,
Are you as wary as I am of movie adaptations of books? Especially books I love?
Here are two of my favorites that have stood the test of time, along with their trailers:
THE ENGLISH PATIENT by Michael Ondaatje:
and
BEFORE NIGHT FALLS by Reinaldo Arenas:
What are your favorites? Please post in comments below. I’m feeling a film-binge weekend coming on …
Abrazos,
Cristina
I totally agree with Marisel's picks and also The House of the Spirits (don't want to get into the issue of casting). I also recommend the BritBox series Vera. Amazingly, I think the character development is much more nuanced than the original novels. And Cristina, you reminded me to go back and watch Before Night Falls again. Agonizing but well done.
This is a fun one! Devil in a Blue Dress by Walter Mosley, All the President’s Men by Carl Bernstein and Bob Woodward, The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan, Like Water for Chocolate by Laura Esquivel, and everything adapted from Thomas Hardy novels cause the books are a slog (for me, anyway). I am a film buff and could go on—Can we do horrible adaptations next?
