Hi Everyone,
I’m so delighted to welcome back novelist Marisel Vera for another Las Dos Brujas event! The Washington Post called her most recent book, The Taste of Sugar, “a masterful work of historical fiction.”
Here are the details:
BONE OF MY BONE: CRAFTING YOUR HISTORICAL SKELETON
Learn how to create a narrative framework, or “skeleton,” from the real life historical archive, and how to use the “bones” of history, hard facts, and dead people to give stories momentum, structure, and intrigue.
*
And “historical” can be more recent than we generally believe.
Marisel’s new novel, The Girls from Humboldt Park, is set in 1977 Chicago, which she considers her historical skeletal spine. “A police officer shot two unarmed PR men in the back,” she writes, “killing them in front of families during the PR Day Festivities. This sparked a two day uprising.”

I’ll post a reminder closer to the event and send out a Zoom link two days before.
Happy reading!
