I was going though my old teaching notes and found a kind of bullet-point manifesto on writing for my students (and myself!).
Here are a few, to start:
Think of the novel—of writing in general—as a passionate experiment.
As writers, we are choreographers of reality. Our role is to expand the terms of reality.
Writing may help make sense of the world but it prescribes nothing.
Find the stillness that goes into the making of art.
