Thinking prompt #14: A FEW MORE (LIBERATING) THOUGHTS ON WRITING

Hi Everyone,

This continues my June 23rd post in which I raid my own teaching notes on writing. Here are a few more bullet points from my informal manifesto:

• Writing is about uncertainty, about the openness to possibility and chance.

• Cultivate your peripheral vision then try to capture the center and the periphery all at once.

• Art is a way to produce knowledge about the world.

• Know what’s come before you. We learn things by summoning the old. Duchamp said art is about choosing, not creating.
