Thinking prompt #15: MAPPING YOUR TERRAIN
Hi Everyone,
Earlier this summer I read WERNER HERZOG: A GUIDE FOR THE PERPLEXED, a series of conversations with the renowned German filmmaker. So many things have stayed with me but two related quotes stand out:
“I never look for stories to tell; instead they assail me.”
“I look at my films as one big story, a vast, interconnected work I have been concentrating on for 50 years. Like the separate bricks that make up a building, taken together they constitute something bigger than their individual parts.”
YOUR PROMPT: Consider Herzog’s words through the lens of your own work. What are your most insistent stories? The ones that don’t let you rest? How are these stories part of a greater, obsessive whole? Take the time to describe this to yourself, to take notes, to strategize.
In short: settle for telling nothing less than what “assails” you.
Abrazos,
Cristina
