Thinking prompt #19: MORE FROM MY TEACHING NOTES

Hi Everyone,

Here are a few more thoughts from my teaching notes—aka my writing manifesto—in no particular order:

• To write a novel is to persuasively create places and lives, to inhabit a world in which you create collisions and affinities, contrasts and resemblances, dissonances and entanglements.

• What is the relationship between voice and the intensification of experience?

• How does sound change the scene?

• Let your questions and curiosities lead you beyond the boundaries of familiar ways of knowing and doing things.

• Sometimes the best writing comes out of not knowing.

• Find images that contain underlying complexities and rival narratives.
