Hi Everyone,
Here’s your thinking prompt for the day:
Every day we navigate an infinite number of questions, details, uncertainties, and conundrums as we write. But whether we’re grappling with a poem or a multi-generational novel, there’s usually an underlying WHY to our writing.
Why these people? Why this timeframe? Why these incidents and places? Why is this terrain (in every sense) so utterly compelling to me? Girding it all is the bigger question you’re asking, the one that made you decide to embark on your project in the first place.
So … WHAT IS YOUR ESSENTIAL QUESTION?
Understanding and articulating this question will help you reply in the most elaborate, creative, distilled, emotionally generous, and specific ways possible. Pin this question somewhere you can see it as you write. The continual reminder will help keep you steadily exploring.
Abrazos,
Cristina
This seems like a wonderful exercise to clarify your work across many projects. What is driving this? What is driving me?
The way I went from "this character is in the best position to explore the worldbuilding I worked on" to "this is an examination of my own isolation" was kinda wild, thank you for this prompt!
