Writing prompt #100: CROSSING A LINE

How amazing that we’ve hit 100 writing prompts since embarking on this adventure over two years ago! Thanks for your continued support and a special shout-out to our new subscribers. Please peruse our growing archive of prompts and other offerings. You never know where inspiration mights strike!

TODAY’S PROMPT: Make a list of the lines your character(s) are certain they would never cross. You might start by asking them a few questions. A sampling: Under what circumstances would you kill? Do you think stealing is always wrong? How would you react to betrayal? How far might you take revenge?

Now write a scene in which you bring your character(s) to a line they thought they’d never cross. Test them. Then test them again. What happens?

Sometimes we learn more about a character under extreme duress than when they’re living their everyday lives.
