Hi Everyone,
Many years ago, my father and I used to argue politics on a regular basis. (We’re on opposite ends of the spectrum!) After each of these vehement discussions, he’d sign off lovingly, wish me good night, and say: “Bueno, it’s good to know what the enemy thinks.”
It never failed to make me laugh.
YOUR PROMPT: Who is your main character’s worst enemy? It could be someone still in their lives, or from any part of their past. Let’s hear from this enemy, hear them rip apart your character in rich detail. Is there any truth to what they’re saying? Does jealousy play a role? Were they ever friends? Is betrayal, real or perceived, part of what’s fueling the hate?
Give this a couple of pages. Even if you don’t end up using this enemy’s diatribe, you’ll learn a great deal more about your character than if you considered them solely through their own perspective, or that of their friends.
Let me know how this goes!
Abrazos,
Cristina
This is such a good prompt-- as usual! There's so much for readers to glean from our characters in the way their enemies see them, describe them, loathe them. Often times, WHY an antagonist is our character's enemy is their enemy is understood/explained/described, but HOW they "enemy" for lack of a better term, is just as important, if not more-so. It can fuel the plot.
Thank you for this, Cristina!
