Writing prompt #41: STORYTELLING & SALVATION

Hi Everyone,

I came across this quote by German novelist Jenny Erpenbeck in her most recent collection of essays NOT A NOVEL:

“The irony of the writer’s craft is that when loss is recounted, what is lost is preserved.”

YOUR PROMPT: What would be forever lost if you—and only you—didn’t write it? Stop everything you’re doing right now and write down the opening sentence to this necessary story, the one that wouldn’t exist without you. Then make time later this week to expand that opening to at least 2-3 pages.
