Hi Everyone,
How was your weekend?
I’d like to try something a little different this morning. Please watch the four-minute music video (below) by Cuban singer Zule Guerra, who lives in Havana. This story is simple but emotionally quite complex. The singer is watching an actual video of her grandparents in their prime, when they were very much in love. Later, we witness the grandfather suffering from tragic memory loss—and the heartbreaking isolation that results. (You don’t need to speak Spanish to follow it.)
YOUR PROMPT: Write a page, or more, in which one of your characters remembers, or contends with, a great loss. It can be from any point-of-view but please experiment with the ‘heat’ of the telling until it feels tonally right. Perhaps you might even choose a piece of music that captures their loss?
Thanks for giving this a try—and please let me know how it goes!
Abrazos,
Cristina
This was beautiful, Cristina. Thanks for introducing me to Zule Guerra!
