Hi Everyone,
There’s one in every family and often in our stories as well: the truth teller. The person everyone is trying to shut up and combat, whose story they’re desperate to silence. Why? Because the truth is dangerous. Because it implicates others. Because it challenges the lies those same others tell themselves and the world.
Here’s a quote from David Schnarch’s seminal book on interpersonal neurobiology, BRAIN TALK:
“Only the best in us talks about the worst in us because the worst in us lies about its own existence.”
WRITING PROMPT: Identify the truth teller in your story, the one who can be relied upon to upset the accepted narratives of the family, or the larger community. Set them loose with the most important truth they know, consequences be damned. Try this in first person. or a close third point-of-view, 2-3 pages to start.
Good luck with this one!
Abrazos,
Cristina
Great prompt!
