Writing prompt #57: WHOM ARE YOU OVERLOOKING?

Hi Everyone,

I’m reading a fascinating book by Maria Stepanova titled In Memory of Memory that interrogates remembrances of all kinds—political, familial, cultural, historical, and personal. Stepanova considers, too, the ways in which people remain unseen, and how and why that happens.

To quote her:

“Life gave them no opportunity to be remembered or to remain in view, to stand briefly in the spotlight; their ordinariness put them beyond the usual human interest and this seemed unfair …”

YOUR PROMPT: Choose someone in the world of your writing who’s been overlooked, underestimated, neglected. Give them a voice. Allow them to keenly observe the goings-on from their forgotten perch. Write 1-2 pages to start.
