Hi Everyone,
You may be familiar with this quote by poet and activist Audre Lorde, famously addressed to white feminists:
“I cannot hide my anger to spare you guilt nor hurt feelings …”
Who’s protecting whom in your story? Why? How? What are the emotional benefits of doing so? The fallout from failing to protect? The dangers either way?
YOUR PROMPT: Write a scene where we see this dynamic at work—what is said and, perhaps more importantly, what isn’t. Extend this, if it makes narrative sense for you, to a breaking point. Write 2-3 pages to start.
Let me know how it goes!
Abrazos,
Cristina
I’ve been thinking about this quote and prompt a lot. What’s fascinating for me to explore, in relation to my new novel, are the emotional benefits of “failing “ to protect.”
Love this one!
