Writing prompt #80: YOUR CHARACTERS' WORK LIVES
Hi Everyone,
I came across a job description I’d never heard of before: a technician who repairs and replaces the composite mirrors on the Hobby-Eberly Telescope in West Texas.
“Her name is Katie. She must physically crawl into the iron lattice that supports the mirrors to exchange the ones that became smeared with bird feathers, bug splats, and bat guano overnight, when the telescope roof was open. If Katie doesn’t clean the mirrors, scientists may not know dark matter from shit.”
Whoa!
YOUR PROMPT: Describe as specifically and richly as you can, a work day in the life of your protagonist, no matter how outlandish their profession. The more detailed its rituals, the more extraordinary the ordinary may begin to sound. Experiment with point-of-view. Is this told in first person? By a busybody co-worker? The boss?
Have fun!
Abrazos,
Cristina
