I recently heard an episode on NPR's Fresh Air, where Terry Gross interviewed Andre Dubus III. I confess that I've never read his work. He has a difficult and violent past, and he talks about how writing changed his life, and has some really unique and inspiring things to say about writing fiction in particular. I found it riveting. The interview led me to start reading his latest "Such Kindness". Here is the link to the podcast.
"The Hummingbird's Daughter" by Luis Alberto Urrea is a book I could not put down! Although it was published in 2005, I'm just discovering it now. So rich, so beautiful--enchanting!
