I don't yet have a soundtrack, but wanted to recommend two titles that excel in the soundtrack dept.: Shrug and Mary Jane. You'll come away singing!

The playlist that fueled the project I just finished includes, but isn't limited to:

50 Cent: 'Get Rich Or Die Tryin’'

Kendrick Lamar: ‘good kid, m.A.A.d city’

Lil’ Kim: 'Hard Core’

Lil Wayne: 'Tha Carter III’

Outkast: 'ATLiens'

Notorious BIG: 'Ready to Die'

DMX: ‘It’s Dark and Hell Is Hot’

Outkast: 'Aquemini'

Kanye West: ‘The College Dropout’

I'm so looking forward to using this prompt on whatever I work on next!

Cristina, talk to me re this "outsider perspective." Is it so called because the protagonist

is not native to the place? ( I'm also creating a 1970s R&B and Salsa playlist for my new novel.)

Hi Marisel, Yes, the "outsider perspective" is exactly as you describe. My characters aren't native to Berlin so they bring musical associations quite likely distinct from Berliners themselves. Would love to hear a few of the songs on your playlist--that's definitely my era, too! Abrazos.

For The Girls from Humboldt Park, I've got boogaloos for one of the mothers like El Pito by Cheo Feliciano, Joe Cuba Sextet, and, for the girls, salsa like La Cartera by Salsa Harlow and Calle Luna Calle Sol by Willie Colon and Héctor Lavoe, R&B like Mercy, Mercy Me (The Ecology) by Marvin Gaye, Fire by the Ohio Players, and The Hustle cause it was a thing in the 70s. I hope to have music embedded throughout the novel because music and dancing is very much a part of their lives.
