Hi Everyone,
Recently, a line in Günter Grass’s novel FAR AFIELD—which captures the complex aftermath of the Berlin Wall’s fall—caught my attention:
“No border holds forever.”
It made me think of the very real borders we navigate daily, both temporally (past, present, future) as well as artistically/fictionally. What are the crucial borders that divide us—and our characters? When, why, and how do they manage to cross the borders that previously kept them in check?
YOUR PROMPT: Zero in on the very moment of transgression when one of your characters decides ‘Enough!’ and crosses a border once deemed forbidden. For the purposes of this exercise, capture that crucial moment when the border gives. (Later, you can fill in what preceded it, as well as its aftermath.)
Let me know how it goes!
Abrazos,
Cristina
I love this one. The idea is already growing in my mind but I will need a quieter time to give it its due merit. I'll file it for a few days and come back to it after the rush of the holidays is over. Thanks for the prompt. I needed it.
LOVE this one so much!
