This past year-plus has been especially hard for many of us. I’d love to know what you read (or reread) that brought you pleasure, and solace, and deep engagement these past sixteen months.
Please post your favorite(s) here. I look forward to expanding my 2021 reading list!
I loved The Arsonist’s City by Hala Alyan! Great writing, characters, family drama with humor and heart. Alyan should be treated like Jonathan Franzen is—she’s a brilliant chronicler of families!
I loved Afterlife by Julia Alvarez. Gorgeous writing -- as always -- I pretty much love everything she's written. Also, I widowed at the end of 2019 so the protagonist of this novel resonated with me.
I reread Toni Morrison’s “The Bluest Eye”. I needed some sentence-level mastery.

The Radetzky March by Joseph Roth.
One of my all-time favorites! ☺️
Back to a classic: Love in the Time of Cholera by Gabriel García Márquez

I loved The Music of Bees by Eileen Garvin. It is so full of heart and perfect for anyone wanting to start over.
Anna Karenina (the translation by Pevear) and Maylis de karengal's works ( any one of hers is truly transporting.)
What a great list of reads and rereads here! Thanks so much for posting.
