I have a new chapbook out: Volcanic Interruptions. The book launch is set for March 25th, live and in person in Santa Cruz, CA. An online launch is scheduled for May 6th at 12 noon PST via Zoom. The book is available through my website: https://adelanajarro.com/ and via Amazon.
Volcanic Interruptions includes Janet Trenchard’s artwork. My poems and Janet's paintings dialog about the feminine as power and life force. The book combines poetry and art--it's fantastic. I love it! Really. It was such a pleasure to collaborate with an artist and bring this book to life.
I recently sold my book "Blood in the Cut" to Flatiron in a two-book deal!
It's slated for a Summer 2024 release. It's because of Las Dos Brujas' support that this book even got written, so a very special "thank you" goes out to Cristina (and you all) for so much generous help and support!
I finished writing the salsa crime story to Junio ‘73 and submitted it to the Latinx crime anthology. It was a super fun challenge and I’m glad I did it whatever happens.
I just returned from a book tour to promote the Spanish-language version of my second novel, Indómita. It was wonderful presenting it on the island and it was really well received. I had a book party like no US book party I ever hear of. The bookstore combined the reading with a San Valentin celebration. So it went on all day. It started with Tarol card readings para los enamorados. Then I did a reading, was interviewed and ended with a booksigning. While I was signing, the bookstore owner hired a troubadour who played guitar and sang boleros. When the signing was over, tables and chairs were removed and the bolerista asked couples to join us on the dance floor. Sorry to say my out-of-tune self was moved to sign along and it was immortalized on video which went up on FB before I even got home that night. Mi gente!!!
My other piece of good news is that A Woman of Endurance will be released in paperback in April. I'm excited about that. Wish we all lived in the same town so we could celebrate together.
How extraordinary—and festive! I wish all book parties could be that fun! And congratulations on the impending release of the paperback. So delighted that your novel is having such a warm and well-deserved reception!
Dear Brujas, I want to let you know about the Santa Fe International Book Festival which will take place May 19-21. I will be in Conversation with Luis Urrea celebrating the life and work of Rudolfo Anaya, who will be honored this year. This is the second annual festival. I will also be doing storytelling from Rudy's book, The Owl in the Straw Hat. I would love to see more Brujas participate in the festival in future and will be encouraging them to cast the net. Sending Bruja love, Denise Chávez https://www.sfinternationallitfest.org/
